The Loose Jaw Colt - 5/8" Sweet Iron, Mullen Port features 5" cheeks and a 5" mouthpiece that measures 5/8" in diameter. This bit is one of the best choices for colts when leaving a ring snaffle. The low leverage cheek and a very mild mouthpiece allows the rider to pull young colts around while adding a small amount of curb pressure.

Sweet iron creates saliva for a moist, soft mouth while the mullen mouth allows some room for the tongue. Since the mullen mouth provides extra space for the tongue, instead of constantly pushing into it, this results in more tongue relief.

The loose jaw means that it swivels where the mouthpiece is attached to the shank. This feature allows for slight rotation before the bit engages which provides a "warning" to the horse before the bit engages fully, this allows him to respond to the slightest pressure.
